How to make the perfect salad...
Every night, the rabbits get a bowl full of greens. They all eagerly await their dinner salads. All the rabbits sit near their food dishes around 7:30pm. They know what time it is...eyes alert- ears forward..if they see me coming perhaps standing on hind legs. FEEDER PERSON!
Now I will admit we do spoil these bunnies but also maintain a good balanced diet for them.Along with fresh hay and pellets I've talked about their breakfast routine on other posts, but dinner-that's a whole new ballgame.
The perfect bunny salad starts with a nice helping of Romaine Lettuce. Then I usually follow it with a big helping of Green Leaf or Red Leaf Lettuce.I may throw in some Escarole and Collard Greens too..others I get from the
Veggie Listsuggested by the
House Rabbit Society There's enough variety that they don't usually shnub the greens.
Everything is washed and put in a salad spinner.I always top off the salad with some parsley, fresh green carrot tops and a small piece of carrot. Bam! Bunny Food!
All the bunnies have their own salad bowl.Oddly, only Twizzle will eat from the bowl..the other 3 prefer it if the greens are dumped out on their food mat so they can pick and choose how best to eat the salad.
Twizzle eats most of his in one sitting ("Rookie!",says Greyton.)
Feather and Greyton will space their dinner out - Princess loves to wait until we are trying to sleep then *CRUNCH**CRUNCH*MUNCH*
But by the morning the greens are gone and "When's breakfast?"
I usually tend to that after serving Mrs. Pratt coffee in bed. A ten year tradition the buns couldn't care less about.Juggling coffee cups with bunnies underfoot is quite an ordeal.Quite the feat of balance. I wonder if Cirque du Soleil is hiring?
Above posts have pics of splendiferous salad bowls and the Pratt Bunnies enjoying their bounty.
